Median monthly salary in Armenia in August 2012 contracted by 4.1 percent from July to 121,065 drams

YEREVAN, October 2. / ARKA /. The median monthly salary in Armenia in August 2012, according to preliminary figures, contracted by 4.1 percent from July to 121,065 drams (an equivalent of $295 or 9,421 Russian rubles), the National Statistical Service (ArmStat) reported, saying also the median salary was 6.6 percent higher if compared to the same month in 2011.

According to ArmStat, the median salary in 2012 July was 126,227 drams, which was 6.6% higher from a year earlier. 

The highest median salary of 157,400 drams was reported by the southern province of Syunik, home to several large smelters, while the lowest paid region was Aragatsotn where it was about 84,600 drams. In Yerevan, the average nominal wage in August 2012 was approximately 126,200.

In general, the highest salaries in August were boasted by financial and insurance sectors (more than 330,900 drams), information and communications sector (more than 276,700 drams), mining (more than 262,200 drams), electricity, gas and steam production and distribution (about 162,200 drams) and construction (more than 150,800 drams).

The lowest paid sectors were culture and leisure – 66,200 drams, services - more than 76,800 drams. In education sector median salary was 88,000 drams and 87,400 drams in agricultural sector. ($1 - 407.09 drams). -0-
