YEREVAN, March 26. / ARKA /. Hrach Berberyan, the chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia, has downplayed today fears that the price of eggs may again skyrocket ahead of Easter marked this year on April 20.
"I do not think that the price of eggs will go up as it has already risen significantly of late," he said.
According to the National Statistical Service, the average price of eggs in Armenia in February 2014 increased by 15.6 % from the year earlier.
Berberyan said additional batches of eggs are imported to the country prior to Easter and therefore there will be no shortage.
According to Ashot Hovhanesyan from ministry of agriculture, the daily demand for eggs in Armenia is about 900 thousand pieces. On the eve of holidays (in particular the New Year and Easter ), the demand rises. -0-
