No warming expected in Yerevan and Ararat valley before early January

YEREVAN, December 23. /ARKA/. Warming is expected in Yerevan and Ararat Valley not earlier than the first ten days of January, Novosti-Armenia reported referring to the head of hydro-meteorological service of Armenia’s ministry of emergencies Gagik Surenyan.

No weather changes are projected for the next five days, weather will be the same on New Year days, Surenyan said.

Cold weather is localized in Ararat Valley, i.e. Ararat and Armavir regions, Yerevan and adjoining lowlands as Ararat Valley is located in an intermountain kettle where arctic airstream remain stagnant  in the bottom, Surenyan said.

Collision of the lower cold streams with the upper warmer ones leads to fog and precipitation, he said.

Surenyan noted weather is quite warm in other regions of Armenia.

Temperature is above zero in Gavar, Sevan, even in Shirak region and in Artik in the afternoon. Twelve-fifteen degrees are recorded in Tavush region in daytime, whereas temperature is Yerevan is down to minus 11 degrees in the afternoon: the difference in temperatures is 20 degrees, Surenyan said. –0—
