Number of unemployed rises to 61,900 in Armenia over year
YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. Number of the unemployed in Armenia rose by 3.7% to 61,900 people as of June 1, 2014, compared to the same period of the year before, head of employment state service Artak Mangasaryan told a press conference on Tuesday.
According to Mangasaryan, the unemployed account for 95.4% of jobseekers.
The employment agency says there were 64,900 jobseekers as of the beginning of June, a reduction of 6.5% compared to the same period of 2013. Of them 46,600 were women and 15,800 were young men.
In general, 16.2% of Armenia’s active population is unemployed, the agency says.
Mangasaryan said there is high demand for doctors and nurses in the regions, for economists, IT specialists, engineers, teachers, kindergarteners, managers, salespersons, waiters, cooks, hairdressers, electricians, drivers, and others.
There are vacancies in all fields and highly-skilled specialists are demanded, but the number of unemployed is not reduced as low salaries are offered, Mangasaryan said.
Some 4,277 jobseekers got employment as of June 1, of them 2,572 were women, he said. –0--
