YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. The administration of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is carrying out personnel purges – it is getting rid of old specialists, Hraparak reports.
An employee at the plant called the newspaper and said that the personal purges began after Ashot Manukyan, energy infrastructures and natural resources minister, visited the plant last week.
The minister pointed out the necessity of changes, and after that old employees, who work in risky conditions with low salaries were dismissed.
Vasak Tarposhyan, the plant’s spokesman, denied the information saying that there is nothing like that.
“In а 1,700-people workforce, two or three personnel replacements can’t be considered as personnel purges,” Tarposhyan said.
Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, which is the only nuclear plant in the region, sits near Metsamor (30 kilometers west of Yerevan).
Only the second unit of the plant is operating now. It generates 30 to 35% of the country’s annual power output.
In March 2014, the Armenian government decided to extend the plant’s life till 2026 because of delay in construction of a new nuclear unit. -0---
