The Armenian National Assembly passed the package of amendments to the Criminal Code and the Administrative Offences Code making punishment for pocket picking stricter. The aim of the initiative is to stop the increase of this kind of offences and to change things in the country.

YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. The Armenian National Assembly passed the package of amendments to the Criminal Code and the Administrative Offences Code making punishment for pocket picking stricter. The aim of the initiative is to stop the increase of this kind of offences and to change things in the country.

Srbuhi Galyan, deputy justice minister, said that such kind of offenders could be prosecuted before only if they stole a sum exceeding AMD 5,000 (around $10), while now they will be prosecuted regardless of the amount they steal, and a criminal case will be opened regardless of the affected party.

The amended penal code implies fines 200 to 500 time bigger than the minimum salary or a no-longer-than-two-month detention or a no-longer-than-two-year term in prison. -0---
