Police want to toughen fines for traffic rules breaches

YEREVAN, June 18. / ARKA /. An extraordinary session of the Armenian National Assembly is considering today a bill submitted by the Police calling for stricter penalties for violation of some  traffic rules.

A deputy chief of Police Arthur Osikyan said the bill proposes that the size of fine for smoking while driving increase from the current 5000 to 20,000 drams (a little over $50); the fine for driving without a license increase from 5 to 10,000 drams and the fine for driving without wearing seat belt  increase from 3.000 to 5,000 drams.

He said the bill also envisages that the fine for parking violations be cut from 40,000 drams about 20.000 drams. 

The size of fine for pulling or parking at public transport stops is proposed to be reduced from 10,000 to 5,000 drams, he added. ($ 1 - 410.61 drams). -0 -
