YEREVAN, August 4. / ARKA /. Retirement pensions in Armenia will increase by 15 percent on average from January 1, 2015, the first deputy head of the State Social Welfare Service Smbat Sairyan told a news conference today. He said the rise will cover in the first place the lowest pensions.
“The task today is not to index pensions, but to raise the size of minimum pension to the subsistence level and eradicate poverty among pensioners, “Sairyan said.
According to him, currently about 13,000 pensioners in Armenia live in extreme poverty, receiving a monthly pension less than 22,000 drams. The average pension is 36,000 drams.
He also said payments of lump sums for childbirth will be resumed in the next few days and benefits for the birth of the third and consequent babies will be transferred to special bank accounts from today.
The one-time benefit for the first and second babies is 50,000 drams. The benefits for the third and consequent babies is 430,000 drams. ($ 1 - 406.28 drams). -0—
