Semi-finished hotel issue in Khosrov reserve to be taken to court
YEREVAN, September 25. / ARKA /. Armenian nature protection minister Aram Harutyunian said today a court will be asked to decide what to do with an unfinished hotel in the Khosrov reserve.
In 2011, environmentalists asked the government to revise its decision to grant part of Khostrrov reserve, called Gilani, the status of closed wood area, which allowed a company to get permission to start construction of a hotel in the area, which was leased to it for 60 years.
The protests made the government to revise its decision and Gilani was given its former status, but the unfinished hotel building is still there.
"The Gilani problem is still under negotiation. Our position is clear: this agreement should be invalidated. We asked the company for some documents and now are waiting for its response, the next step will be taking the case to court , " the minister said.
Khosrov Reserve is a conservation area in Ararat region. It was founded in the 5th century by Armenian King Khosrov, and was granted its current status in 1958. -0-
