Some $1.6 million saved by Armenian health ministry last year will be used to build 6 out-patient clinics –minister

YEREVAN, January 29. / ARKA /. Some $1.6 million saved by the ministry of health last year will be used to build 6 out-patients clinics, three of which in the border regions of Tavush province, according to health minister Derenik Dumanyan. He said this year the ministry will renovate hospitals in Metsamor and Chambarak and upgrade 10 ambulances.

Speaking at a news conference he said 13 out-patient stations were built last year, while renovated medical centers in Abovyan and Alaverdi will reopen in several days. The minister said the year of 2013 was marked by healthcare reforms.

He said a concept for development of healthcare for 2014 – 2020 was approved last year, the first such document. Also in November 2013 the government adopted a document designed for improvement of quality of medical care and reduction of corruption risks in this sector.

The third important document, adopted last year is a strategy for a healthy lifestyle, he added. He said  another major achievement last year was the development of over 50 medical standards by the National Institute of Health which are being applied already.

The minister said that his ministry and the National Institute of Health will publish soon a study on the level of smoking in Armenia. -0-
