Some 79% of Armenia's permanent population have resided in a particular locality since birth - National Statistical Committee
YEREVAN, December 15. /ARKA/ The overwhelming majority of Armenia's permanent population - 79% (2,318,064 people) permanently resided in a particular locality since birth, the National Statistical Committee said in a report based on the findings of a census conducted in 2022.
Of the remaining 21% of the people who did not permanently reside in a particular locality since birth (614,667 people), 76.8% (471,883 people) had Armenia as their previous place of residence, 19% (117,027 people) - other countries, and 4.2% (25,757 people) - Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
Some 92.3% of the permanent population acquired Armenian citizenship by birth, 7.6% were granted it, and 0.1% acquired Armenian citizenship in other ways. Moreover, most of the persons who acquired citizenship by birth (98.7%) were children aged 0-9 years, and the least - 84.5% - were persons aged 70 years and above.
Households by number of members and type of property
Among households, those with two members dominated with 21.4%. In the second position were households with one person (17.2%), and in the third position were households with four members (17%).
More families (households, 50.6%) lived in multi-apartment buildings, 45.7% in privately-owned houses, and 1.7% in a part of a privately-owned house. The remaining 2% were distributed between those living in a part of an apartment, in a barrack/temporary shelter and in a building/structure of public importance.
Health status
Among Armenia's resident population aged 2 years and above, the most people did not have any problems with vision, hearing, walking or climbing stairs (85.6%, 92.4%, 90.2%, respectively). Minor problems with vision, hearing, and walking had 12.4%, 6.5%, and 7.3% of people, respectively. Significant difficulties in these indicators were experienced by 1.8%, 1%, and 2.3% of people, and 0.1%, 0.1%, and 0.3% of people could not see, hear, or walk or climb stairs at all.
In the population aged 4 years and above, the most people did not have any problems with memory or concentration; washing/bathing or dressing; communicating, understanding or being understood (93.6%, 96.1%, 97%, respectively).
Slight problems with memory, washing, communication had 5.4%, 3.1%, 2.4%, respectively. Significant difficulties in these criteria were experienced by 0.9%, 0.6%, and 0.5% of people, and 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.1% were generally unsound in memory, washing/bathing or dressing, and communication.
The number of permanent population of Armenia, according to the current records stood at 2,993,800 as of October 1, 2023 against 2,970,600 people as of the same period in 2022.
The urban population stood at o 1,908,400 inhabitants, with 1,103,100 inhabitants in the capital Yerevan. In rural areas, the number of population stood at 1,085,400. -0-
