YEREVAN, May 11. /ARKA/. Sugar prices in Armenia rose by 10 drams several days after the May 6 parliamentary elections, Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) newspaper reports referring to its own analysis of retail market. 

Currently, 1 kg of sugar can be bought by average 430-440 drams in stores.

“In average 275 tons of sugar is sold in Armenia daily. And this means that rising prices by 10 drams the only sugar importer and producer Samvel Aleksanyan earns 2 million 750 thousand drams in additional income daily or over 82 million drams monthly,” the newspaper reports. 

The source adds that it is unknown within how many month he “will be able to recover his expenses made during election campaign.”

“Also, Alex Grig company, which is allegedly owned by Aleksanyan’s wife, paid 15% less taxes in the fist quarter of this year from a year earlier,” the newspaper says.

According to information spread by mass media, Samvel Aleksanyan, who entered the parliament of the fifth convocation from the electoral district №7, owns Alex Grig and Lusastgh Sugar companies which are the principal sugar importers and producers in Armenia. 

Haykakan Zhamanak’s editor-in-chief, a member of oppositional Armenian National Congress, Nikol Pashinyan was the main opponent of Aleksanyan at the parliamentary election. ($1-393.07 drams). -0-
