YEREVAN, January 29. / ARKA /. The Yerevan Municipality will release 300 million drams this year for Yerevan Zoo, deputy mayor Aram Sukiasyan said today adding that the money will be used to restore and rehabilitate some of the facility’s infrastructure and build new spacious enclosures.
According to him, by some criteria the zoo does not meet international standards.
"Few zoos in the world have the relief like ours, and we must make efforts to ensure that our zoo meets all necessary standards," he told a news conference.
He said part of the restoration work is expected to be completed by May, when the zoo opens to visitors, and the rest will be accomplished by the end of the year.
The Yerevan State Zoo was founded in 1940. At present it is home to about 3000 animals representing over 200 species from the South Caucasus and Armenia and from around the world. ($ 1-408,48 drama). -0-
