Union of Russian Armenians allocates $43,000 to Armavia for operating special flight from Aleppo to Yerevan
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. The Union of Russian Armenians has allocated $43,000 to Armavia, Armenia’s national air carrier, for operating a special flight, Yerevan-Aleppo-Yerevan, the press office of the Union reports.
As a result, 140 children of Syrian Armenians have been brought to Yerevan.
Armenian government has organized a free rest for Syrian Armenians’ children in the summer camp in the Armenian resort of Hankavan. They will enjoy trips and entertainments as part of the program intended for them. Some 400 children are expected to arrive in Armenia.
On August 9, 125 children arrived in Yerevan and sent to the summer camp in Hankavan.
Armavia resumed a regular weekly flight to Syria on July 9 after a more than four-month pause because of worsening security situation in Syria which is home to an estimated 60,000-80,000 Armenians. Syria’s national airline also carries out Aleppo-Yerevan flights on a weekly basis.
The Armenian community in Syria played until recently a significant role in the social, political and cultural life in Syria. -0-
