USAID plans to start new program in Armenia
YEREVAN, September 26. / ARKA /. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is preparing to launch a new community development program in Armenia with the focus on remote communities, Karen Hilliard, head of USAID Armenia Office, said during a meeting with the territorial minister Armen Gevorgyan.
On his side Armen Gevorgyan expressed satisfaction with the process of implementation of the "Program of cooperation with civil society and local government" implemented by Counterpart International, and described USAID projects ‘exclusive.’
Gevorgyan praised then USAID is a key partner of the Government of Armenia and in this regard touched on joint programs designed to promote territorial administration and local governments.
He said that the strengthening of the local government system and the development of democracy are priorities of the government. Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Hilliard on her new appointment and expressed hope for continued fruitful cooperation with USAID.
The sides also touched upon the recent elections to the local self-government. In this regard, Gevorgyan c noted that the elections were conducted in calm conditions, in accordance with law and international standards. -0-
