YEREVAN, September 11. / ARKA /. Visa and Passport Department of Armenia’s Police said yesterday it was halting reception of applications for ID cards and biometric passports for four working days because of moving to new premises.
Armenian citizens started first obtaining biometric passports and ID cards beginning from June 2012. The ID card is designed for use within Armenia and the passport for traveling abroad. The ID card looks like a standard plastic card and the passport does not differ from current passports. In addition to personal data, digital photo, digital signature, the biometric passport contains also the fingerprints of two index fingers of the passport carrier. Validity of the biometric passport is five years, and that of ID card is 10 years.
Data such as nationality and blood type can be placed in the document at the request of the citizen. The ID card is for all citizens over the age of 16, and the passport can be obtained at any age. -0-
