Yerevan mayor orders dismantling of booths in Public Park
YEREVAN, May 2. /ARKA/. Yerevan mayor, Taron Margaryan, signed a decision today to dismantle controversially-built booths in a public park near downtown Mashtots Avenue, according to a statement posted on the official website of the municipality.

Environmental activists were trying to prevent the construction of booths, saying that their construction damaged the city’s green areas. They even clashed with the police last Sunday, when seven protesters were detained and two suffered injuries that required hospitalization. The mayor previously said that the trade kiosks would be removed in several years.

During a campaign stop in the park yesterday president Serzh Sargsyan told the mayor that removing the booths “would be the appropriate decision.”

According to the statement, director of Center-Gardening Company was instructed to dismantle the booths. Deputy mayor Kamo Areyan was instructed to oversee the fulfillment of the order. -0-
