Yerevan municipality cuts number of car parking wardens by 80%

YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. A group set up for inventorying car parking lots in Yerevan has cut the number wardens collecting parking fees by about 80% for three days, the municipality’s press office quoted Taron Margaryan, the city mayor, as saying at a routine session on Monday. 

The group set up in response to the city residents’ displeasure over collection of parking fees is now inspecting all parking lots and examining all the contracts to see whether such activities are properly authorized and whether fees are taken legally. 

The mayor said the city authorities in cooperation with the traffic police intend to continue this crackdown on such illegalities and punish wrongdoers to the full extent of the law, and even prosecute them.

Margaryan instructed chief transport agency and the traffic police to map all the places intended for car parking and to sign new contracts. -0-
