Yerevan municipality will bring a fresh batch of 160 buses
YEREVAN, October 4. / ARKA /. The Yerevan Municipality will bring a fresh batch of 160 buses which were ordered by passenger transportation companies running minibuses, which are still the main commuter transport in Yerevan and outside it.
Genrikh Navasardian, head of a municipality department in charge of public transportation, said today the bulk of buses are manufactured by South Korean Hyundai. Navasardian said preparation of documents and the delivery of buses to Armenia will take 5-6 months.
According to Navasardian, the new batch of buses will help partially solve the problem of traffic jams in the Armenian capital. The municipality has held competitions since May to choose companies that will operate 62 minibus routes and 12 bus routes.
As a result of the contests 330 minibuses were found unfit to transport passengers. Navasardian also said that now 2,100 minibuses and about 580 buses are running in Yerevan.
The municipality plans overall to cut the number of minibus routes from 109 to 75 and the number of vans by 800. -0-
