YEREVAN, March 19. / ARKA /. Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian drew with Russia's Vladimir Kramnik in the fifth round of the candidates chess tournament in Russian Khanty Mansiysk Tuesday.
Russia’s Peter Svidler defeated Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria. Dmitry Andreykin (Russia) vs.Viswanathan Anand (India), Sergey Karyakin (Russia) vs. Shahriyar Mammadyarov (Azerbaijan) games ended in a draw as well.
After the fifth round Anand leads with 3.5 points. Aronian, Kramnik, Svidler have three points each. Topalov, Karyakin and Mammadyarov scored two points each and Andreykin - 1.5 points.
In the sixth round Aronian will play with white against Andreykin.
The eight-player super tournament will decide the next challenger for world champion Magnus Carlsen later in the year.
The event is being played under Classical time control with 120 minutes for the first 40 moves and 60 minutes for the next 20. If the game still continues the sudden death time control will come in to effect giving both players 15 minutes each with a 30 second increment from move 61. -0-
