YEREVAN, October 30. / ARKA /. The head coach of French Nantes FC, Michel Ter- Zakarian, who is an ethnic Armenian, refused to lead Armenia’s national soccer team because of an effective contract with the French club, Ruben Hayrapetyan, the president of the Football Federation of Armenia, said today.
The contract with the head coach Vardan Minasyan , who headed the team four years , expires October 31, 2013 . He refused to prolong it. Hayrapetyan said the FFA is working to hire a new head coach.
"The first specialist we approached was Michel Ter- Zakarian. I wished with all my heart he led our team but he refused because of an effective contract with Nantes and it was pointless to continue the negotiations,” said Hayrapetyan .
Hayrapetyan also said Armenia will do everything possible to win the right to host Euro 2020, which will take place in 13 European cities.
He said the chances of the countries that submitted applications are equal. “A lot depends on us. We have received UEFA requirements on 150 pages and have to meet all of them,’ he said.
According to him, a lot will also depend on the goodwill of the UEFA Executive Committee. -0-
