Areal linac will be commissioned in Armenia as part of candle project in 2013
YEREVAN, April 27. /ARKA/. AREAL linac will be commissioned in Armenia as part of CANDLE project in 2013, the press service of the government said after a meeting of the project’s coordinating council, chaired today by prime minister Tigran Sargsyan.
CANDLE (Center for the Advancement of Natural Discoveries Using Light Emission) is a project to create a source of synchrotron radiation of the third generation. CANDLE project will create an opportunity to conduct advanced basic and applied research in various fields of science.
Some equipment worth 1.5 million euros was received for the construction of the linear accelerator. Another batch of equipment, worth one million euros is expected to arrive in the near future. The press service of the government said the bulk of the work was done.
The prime minister was said to have instructed the heads of relevant agencies to include project CANDLE into the agenda of scientific and technical cooperation with Russia, France, Germany, Switzerland and China.
The accelerator is of great scientific and practical significance for experimental research in physics, biology, chemistry and materials science. The project is implemented in cooperation with the German Center DESY, Swiss PSI, Stamford SLAG center and Novosibirsk Institute of Nuclear Physics in Russia.-0-
