Armenian government develops new strategy for energy system

A meeting at the government today chaired by prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan discussed the current status of Armenia's energy system, its perspectives and challenges, the government press office reported.
YEREVAN, May 5. / ARKA /. A meeting at the government today chaired by prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan discussed the current status of Armenia's energy system, its perspectives and challenges, the government press office reported.
It said deputy energy and natural resources minister Areg Galstayn presented the results of a comprehensive study of the sector that will be used as a basis to work out a new long-term development strategy for the power grid.
The goals of the study are safe and secure supplies of energy carriers for end users at the lowest possible prices, development of renewable energy potential, introduction of energy efficient technology and expansion of regional cooperation.
It was said that the new long-term strategy will enable to raise the energy security of the country, lower its dependence on external energy resources and raise the level of energy supplies.
Prime minister Abrahamyan noted that the long-term aim of the government is creation of a stable and secure energy system. -0-
