YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. Armenian telecommunications company Ucom has not yet held specific discussions on the introduction of the 5G technology, Ucom CEO Ara Khachatryan said in an interview with ARKA agency.
“At the moment, we are not holding specific discussions on the introduction of the 5G technology in Armenia. But Ucom will definitely be introducing all the technologies that will be available in the world. Our goal is to make sure that we dictate trends in the region through our innovations and solutions,” Khachatryan said.
According to him, today it is too early to talk about the introduction of the 5G, since the testing stages are not yet completed across the world.
Khachatryan believes that Armenia's infrastructure will not even be able to use all the advantages that 5G technology will provide - such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and industry 4.0 products.
“We have certain products, companies, industrial development, but new technologies will not give the huge results that are expected of them. Moreover, there are still many questions, namely, whether Armenia needs such a technology, whether the cost of its implementation is justified, how the market will be consolidated so that companies can serve clients,” Khachatryan said.
According to him, at the moment not only the technology itself, but also its price are not clear yet, as well as whether subscribers will be able to feel its advantages. He said this is why Ucom is currently considering the possibility of upgrading the network in order to fully provide customers with quality services.
“We are considering the purchase and installment of new equipment to modernize systems. Some aspects have already been agreed, some are in the process, and as a result subscribers will be able to use faster Internet and better communication. In the coming weeks subscribers will receive better quality services, and this will be an ongoing process,” Khachatryan said.
