YEREVAN, October 14, /ARKA/. Armenia’s National Competitiveness Fund said today traffic movement to Tatev Monastery in the southern province of Syunik will be restricted October 16 as the authorities are preparing to launch the longest ropeway in the world. The launch of the ropeway will give an official start to Tatev Revival program, implemented by the Fund.
The total cost of the project is $45 million. Some $20 million will come from Ruben and Veronica Vardanians and Friends United Fund, involving about 100 businessmen. The remaining funding is being attracted by the National Competitiveness Fund. A 26 km long road leading to the monastery will be reconstructed as part of the program.
President Serzh Sargsyan, head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos Karekin II, other government officials will travel to the area to attend the ceremony.
The Fund said the traffic to the monastery will be limited form 5 pm October 15 to late afternoon October 16 to prevent jams. It said the ropeway will open for visitors from October 23. -0-
