Expert: No Exact Official Statistic Data On Tourism In Armenia

There are no exact statistic data on tourism in Armenia, considers Director of local tourism company “Avarayr Tour”, tutor of Armenian Institute of Tourism Arkadiy Sahakyan.
YEREVAN, November 29. /ARKA/. There are no exact statistic data on tourism in Armenia, considers Director of local tourism company “Avarayr Tour”, tutor of Armenian Institute of Tourism Arkadiy Sahakyan.
“There are several methods of tourist flow calculations. Only one method is used in Armenia – number of tourists visiting Armenia”, said Sahakyan.
According to international standards and legislation of Armenia, tourist is a person who spends over 24 hours in the country, lives in the country not more than a year and does not get salary from the State.
According to Armenian National Statistic Service, the number of tourists visited Armenia in January-September is 488 thousand which is by 15.6% more than in the same period of 2009.
“According to the data of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this year entries to the country made only 137 thousand. It means that the majority of tourists are citizens of Armenia living in other countries. Other large group visiting Armenia are drivers of international dispatcher companies. Over hundred heavy dumpers enter the country daily”, said Sahakyan.
This year Armenian hotels accepted only 25-30 thousand tourists.
Head of Union of Tour Operators of Armenia, Rector of Armenian Institute of Tourism Robert Minasyan said that according to another definition of World Tourism Organization, tourist is a person using complete tourism package, including hotels, tours and food expenses.
Armenian Ministry of Economy prognoses that by the results of 2010 the number of tourist visits will be over 600 thousand. –0--
