Sargsyan: tourism in Armenia has a great potential

Tourism industry in Armenia has a great potential, said President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan in the meeting with UN General Secretary of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai.
YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. Tourism industry in Armenia has a great potential, said President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan in the meeting with UN General Secretary of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai.
He said that tourism is a priority sphere in Armenia and despite the fact that annual 20% growth is registered taking into account internal tourism, this sphere has a great potential in the country which should be completely used.
“We consider this sphere very important and are happy to be within UNWTO for about 15 years”, said Sargsyan mentioning that the visit of Rifai to Armenia will be a good incentive for further cooperation.
Sargsyan emphasized the importance and role of UNWTO in solving tourism issues.
Tourism industry plays a great role in world economy, in the solution of social problems of people, cultural and political spheres.
Rifai handed over the open letter of UNWTO and World Council of Tourism and Travel to Sargsyan saying that such letters are handed to the presidents of the countries agreeing and accepting economic, social and political importance of tourism industry in the frames of agitation campaign.
According to the data of Armenian National Statistic Service, the number of tourists visiting Armenia in January-May 2011 increased by 22.1% compared with the indicator of 2010 making 113 515 people. --0--
