Armenia’s Dilijan to host a carpetmaking and handicraft festival
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. A carpetmaking and handicraft festival entitled “Cultural Renaissance” will be held in Dilijan of Armenia on August 16, said Mekhak Apresyan, head of tourism department at Armenia’s ministry of economy.
Handmade items and carpets from both Armenia and Karabakh will be demonstrated at the festival, Apresyan said. The aim is to diversify tour packages and attract tourists to the country’s regions, he added.
Other festivals scheduled for this year are “Siunik Traditions” to be held in Goris (south of Armenia) on August 23, “Treasures of Odzun” to open in Lori (north of the country) on August 24, the Barbeque Festival to be held in Akhtala (Lori region) on September 6.
On October 4 the sixth “Areni” Wine Festival will kick off in Areni village, Vayots Dzor of Armenia. An arts and crafts festival is planned to be held in Giumry (Shirak region).
The ministry of economy says 495,967 tourists visited Armenia in the first half of this year, an increase of 17.3% compared to the same period of 2013. Number of Armenian tourists travelling abroad was 474,989 in the reporting period, a 14.8% increase against the level of the same period 2013. –0--
