Iranian tourists secure 30 percent growth in the number of tourists visiting Armenia
YEREVAN, March 20. /ARKA/. Iranian tourists accounted for a 30 percent growth in the number of foreign tourist visiting Armenia in 2016, Zarmine Zeytuntsyan, the head of the State Committee for Tourism, told a news conference today.
According to her, as a neighboring country, Armenia is interesting for Iranian tourists not only in late March when thousands of them arrive here to celebrate Nowruz- the Iranian New Year, marked on March 21.
She said the number of foreign tourists visiting Armenia last year grew by 5.7% and 30% of that growth was secured by Iranian tourists. In 2016 some 188,851 Iranian tourists visited Armenia, up from 144,160 in 2015.
She said ahead of Nowruz some Armenian travel agencies placed on their websites special information in English and Farsi. Also special banners were installed along the road from the southern Meghri, on border with Iran, up to Yerevan with information about the sights of Armenia which Iranian tourists can visit on the way to Yerevan. Also an agreement was reached with two travel companies for distribution of informational booklets in the Iranian language at the Zvartnots airport and at Meghri checkpoint.
Zarmine Zeytuntsyan also stressed that they intend to disseminate information about the tourist attractiveness of Armenia in Iran, both with the help of the Armenian Embassy in Tehran, and through participation in various tourist fairs and screening of documentaries about Armenia via several satellite channels. -0-
