Over 843,300 tourists visited Armenia in 2012, ministry of economy reports
YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. Tourism growth rate was 11.3% in Armenia as of the end of 2012, Armenian deputy minister of economy Ara Petrosyan reported.
Number of tourists visiting Armenia grew by 85,000 people to 843,330 in 2012 compared to 2011.
Hence, the target was achieved and two-digit growth rate was provided, the deputy minister said adding that the world tourism growth rate was 4% for 2012.
Tourists arriving in Armenia in 2012 were mainly from European countries, from Germany and France in particular, Spanish tourists have also become active, Petrosyan said. The next ones after the European countries are Russia, the USA, Japan and Iran, he added.
“This year a small reduction was recorded in the number of tourists from Iran, which was connected with Iran’s internal problems though”, Petrosyan said, not providing any specific figures. -0-
