Russian ambassador: Armenia has good chances to bring back its tourism brand
YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. Armenia has good chances to bring back its tourism brand, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko told journalists on Thursday.
If public and private sectors intensify their attention toward this area, he said, the country will be able to attract not dozens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands tourists, as two decades ago.
Kovalenko said that Armenia was round-the-year a popular destination for tourists in the Soviet epoch. He said a great deal of work should be done to advertise Armenia’s sights.
The ambassador said that tourism in Armenia is on the track of development, “somewhere in the beginning”, because no work has begun here so far.
He said it is necessary to invest a great deal to see results – more hotels are needed and tourism specialists should be trained.
According to official statistical reports, 281,034 tourists visited Armenia in the first half of this year – 5.1% year-on-year growth.
Armenian economy ministry expects 8-to-10-percent annual growth this year. -0--
