Ameriabank and Union of Banks of Armenia launch 'Financial Literacy and Skills' public events

The Union of Banks of Armenia (UBA) has launched a series of public events today titled "Financial Literacy and Skills," designed to raise the level of financial literacy of the citizens.
YEREVAN, September 19. /ARКА/. The Union of Banks of Armenia (UBA) has launched a series of public events today titled "Financial Literacy and Skills," designed to raise the level of financial literacy of the citizens.
A two-day course of seminars and lectures on financial literacy for students of different universities of Armenia started today as part of the “New Academic Year with New Knowledge” initiative. It is one of the events of this cycle, which is conducted by UBA together with the best experts of Ameriabank. The English Park in the center of Yerevan was chosen as the venue of practical training.
Ellen Danielyan, head of an Ameriabank department in charge of personal banking services and banking cards, said in an interview with reporters that for two days the students will be given the opportunity to gain new knowledge on how to use banking services and how to obtain necessary information for making banking transactions.
“We have chosen the latest ways of conducting interactive classes. Our goal is not to transfer theoretical knowledge, but to provide the students with applied skills. This cycle of events embraces those students who already have certain knowledge in banking. We intend to direct this knowledge to the right channel," she said.
According to her, during the classes, experts will help students identify those factors that need to be paid attention to when using the services of a bank, to differentiate the important from the secondary and to process the information received. “Our main goal is to help students raise their awareness and the rational use of their knowledge,” she stressed.
Students are given the opportunity not only to listen to lectures of leading banking experts of Armenia, but also to ask questions on topics of interest and voice problems for a joint search of solutions.
The Executive Director of UBA Seyran Sargsyan noted in turn that increasing financial literacy of the people contributes to the development of the sector, and on the other hand helps customers choose the best products.
“It is important that our citizens have basic knowledge on financial literacy. It is for this purpose that we conduct various seminars, lectures and classes for different audiences, as well as discussions on specially selected topics,” he said.
According to him, the cycle involves the leading banks of the country for discussions of various topics that will enable students to find answers to their questions. Thus, they are given the opportunity to correctly navigate through the offers of banks and to effectively manage their accounts.
The second target group of the cycle of public events is designed for senior school students from Yerevan and the regions who will visit banks to get acquainted with their activities and functions. The events include also educational financial games and essay contests on the topic of "How I Imagine the Bank of the Future," and video viewing. A business plan competition will be conducted for university student.
On October 31, marked as the Savings Day, Armenian banks will offer citizens the possibility of placing small-sized deposits at high interest rates, an exhibition, workshops and seminars, as well as various contests.
The events also include the release of a cycle of TV programs and social advertisements in which various banking services and financial issues will be presented. Theatrical performances will be staged for the youngest audience.
The cycle of events will end with the awarding of the best authors of analytical articles on the topic of financial literacy, who will be chosen through a monitoring of television and radio programs as well as publications in print and electronic mass media. -0-
