Armenia and Czech republic plan to boost bilateral trade
YEREVAN, September 16. / ARKA /. Armenian exports to the Czech Republic comprise largely timber, glass and alcohol, the chairman of the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Armenia Martin Sargsyan told reporters today, adding also that Armenian and Czech business people were negotiating exports of Armenian fruits, vegetables and other food products to the Czech Republic.

He said in 2014 Armenian exports to the Czech Republic amounted to $19.8 million, while imports from the Czech Republic stood at $1.5 million.

‘Our countries have great untapped potential for economic cooperation. On our part we are creating conditions to help Czech businesses to open joint ventures in Armenia and extend that cooperation within the Eurasian market,’ he said on the sidelines of the Armenian-Czech business forum in Yerevan.

Sargsyan also said that the Czech Airlines is planning to relaunch its Yerevan – Prague service effective 13 December 2015, which he said will promote and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

"We are ready to take in Czech entrepreneurs, to help them expand their activities in Armenia," he added.

Deputy chairman of the Czech Senate Zdenek Shkromah said in turn that Armenia and the Czech Republic have enjoyed for a long time quite warm and friendly relations.

"Contacts between the parliaments of the two countries are on the rise, and I hope that soon the Czech president  will pay a visit to Armenia, which will further strengthen our bilateral cooperation,’  he said.
Shkromah added that the Armenian-Czech economic cooperation was discussed with the Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, as well as with members of the intergovernmental commission on economic issues.

"Our delegation has high expectations from this visit; we have had already a number of meetings with senior officials from various sectors. In terms of investment Armenia represents grate interest  for the Czech Republic. Next year our economy minister is planning to visit Armenia to discuss economic cooperation and investments,’ he said.

"The Czech republic is a member of the EU, while Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union. This opens up a wide range of cooperation possibilities for both countries in the fields of energy, engineering, education and others,’ Shkromah said. -0-
