Armenia International Airports invests $4 million in Shirak airport
YEREVAN, October 18. /ARKA/. Armenia International Airports, a company running the Shirak airport in Armenia's second-largest town of Gyumri, said today that over the last six months it has acquired Striker-3000  specialized aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicles, vehicle battery charging facilities, personal protective equipment, new fire extinguishers, a gym with sport equipment  and means of communication having also recruited young employees.

The company said this all has been done to attract  low-cost airlines  and raise the quality of its services.
It also said that  over the past two years it has invested $4 million in upgrading the Shirak airport and is planning to invest $5 million more in the upcoming two years.

In 2007, Armenia International Airports released funds for the major repair of its runway and a new Finnish-made IDMAN light alarm system was installed there.

'As a result, the total investment over the 8 years will comprise $20 million,' the company said in a press release today.

The Shirak airport as well as the Zvartnots airport in Yerevan are run by the Armenia International Airports company that belongs to American International Airports, an Argentine company owned by Eduardo Eurnekian, an Argentine entrepreneur of Armenian descent. ($1 - 476.57 drams)
