Armenia’s exports of apricot reach 10,000 tons, ministry says

Armenian apricot producers have already exported this year about 10,000 tons of the fruit, the ministry of agriculture said today recalling that last year’s total exports were 1,800 tons.
YEREVAN, June 29. / ARKA /. Armenian apricot producers have already exported this year about 10,000 tons of the fruit, the ministry of agriculture said today recalling that last year’s total exports were 1,800 tons.
The bulk of Armenian apricots are sold to Russia and also to Kazakhstan, Belarus, Georgia, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, Norway, Austria and Switzerland.
Exports of fruits and vegetables this year have reached 35,000 tons already, up from 25,000 tons in the same period of 2014, the ministry said. According to official data, daily exports of fruits and vegetables vary from 300 to 500 tons.
In a related news the ministry of transport and communications said the border check point Stepantsminda-Lars on the Russian-Georgian border has extended its working hours from 6:00 am to 9 pm as a result of an arrangement between Armenian and Georgian authorities.
The border crossing is the only overland conduit to Russia and other countries for Armenian businesses. It is of utmost importance for Armenia, because of transportation blockade by Azerbaijan and Turkey. -0-
