YEREVAN, January 17. /ARKA/. By a vote of 67 to 9 and 23 abstentions the National Assembly of Armenia passed today in the second and final reading a set of legislative amendments abolishing the requirement for work permits for foreign nationals employed by local branches of foreign companies.
According to MP Gevorg Papoyan from the pro-government Civil Contract party, who authored the amendments, there is a flaw in the current legislation, which does not require work permits only for foreigners who are employed by representative offices of foreign companies, while the permit is mandatory for foreigners working for branches of such companies. The proposed changes are aimed at correcting this inequality, he said. -0-
