YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. Ignati Araqelyan, Armenian agriculture minister, speaking Monday at a news conference, presented data on implementation of the ministry’s programs for 2017.
In his words, AMD 2.110 billion has been earmarked in the 2017 government budget for purchasing fertilizers at affordable prices.
The revised budget amounted to AMD 878 million. The saved financial resources were readdressed to other programs.
“As much as AMD 171 million was intended for the diesel subsidizing program, and the revised budget amounted to AMD 171 million,” the minister said. “The saved 159 million was retargeted to other programs.”
He said AMD 1.188 billion was allocated for vaccination of animals, and in the revised version the amount was cut to AMD 1.050 billion.
“In the budget, AMD 6.21 million was earmarked for sanitary measures, of which AMD 3.66 million was spent in the first half of this year,” Araqelyan said.
The saved money, he said, was spent on the implementation of a leasing program on purchasing agricultural machinery, in which agricultural equipment importers were involved.
“Three leasing companies are taking part in the program,” he said. “There is demand, but there certain procedures are being carried out as part of the program, since it was launched in March and certain time is needed to deliver the machinery to addressees. At the moment, we have 23 tractors bought – many of them have been purchased from Belarus.”
Under the government’s project, leasing is provided to farmers and communities at 9% interest rate, of which 7% is subsidized by the government.
“Another program is the provision of affordable loans for purchases,” Araqelyan said. “All of us know that there are some organizations whose financial resources can’t ensure payment directly to farms, and this is the biggest trouble to us, since farms have to take loans for performing their job, and they need to have their loans on time, when they supply crops.”
The minister said that the program will be launched this week, and loans amounting to AMD 2.5 billion will be expected to be provided in August at a 3 percent interest rate. --0----
