Armenian exports grew through re-export of Turkish goods- newspaper claims
YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. The skyrocketed exports of some ostensibly Armenia-made goods to the Russian Federation in the first six months of 2016 raise reasonable doubts about the reliability of official statistics, a story in the local daily "Haykakan Zhamanak" (Armenian Time) says in its today issue.

The story cites the official data of the Customs Service of Armenia for the first six months of this year, which say that some 30,704 various items of goods worth $1.2 million, defined as "backpacks, suitcases, wallets, spectacle cases, binoculars and other goods " were exported to Russia in the first half, whereas only 14 such goods had been sold to that country in the first half of 2015.

"The true reason behind such fantastic rise in exports of these types of goods (more than 2000 times), is a subject of a separate analysis. However, there are doubts that they were manufactured in Turkey and after Russia imposed sanctions on Turkish goods late last year, many Turkey-made goods were taken to Russia through third countries where they were documented as locally-made,’ the daily says.

Armenia also used these schemes and therefore, now when Russia and Turkey are again becoming friends, Armenian exports to Russia will substantially fall, according to the daily.-0-
