Armenian government cancels privatization of Stepanavan airport near Georgian border
YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. An emergency situations airport, located near the town of Stepanavan in Lori province, has been removed by the Armenian government from the list of state property subject to privatization in 2017-2020, Artak Avetisyan, Chairman of the State Property Management Committee, told lawmakers today.
He recalled that the airport, located 20 km from the border with Georgia in northern Armenia, has been idle for quite a long time.
"The property is located on 61.7 hectares of land. Most of its buildings have been completely destroyed, ‘Avetisyan said.
Earlier, the government decided to hand over the airport, ran previously by the Ministry of Emergency, to the Defense Ministry free of charge.
According to Avetisyan, the government's decision is aimed at resuming the functioning of the airport.
This, in his opinion, will promote the development of domestic civil aviation --0--
