YEREVAN, January 8. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia is considering all the possibilities of buying natural gas from the neighboring Iran, the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters on January 7.
"The issue of Iranian natural gas supplies was discussed in the past, is being discussed now and will be discussed until a concrete and profitable solution is found," he said.
As part of gas for electricity swap deal Armenia has been receiving natural gas from Iran since 2015 May, which is converted into electricity here and is shipped back to Iran. The Iran-paid construction of the third 400-kilowatt high-voltage line is under way now.
Speaking about the decision of the Russian Gazprom to raise the price of natural gas it ships to Armenia from $150 per one thousand cubic meters to $165, Pashinyan reiterated that the rise will not affect the price for the end user. The new price is effective from January 1, 2019.
Pashinyan also added that official Yerevan will continue negotiations with the Russian side on the price of gas in order to find a long-term solution to this issue.
“We continue negotiations and will do everything to protect the interests of our country,” he added. -0-
