YEREVAN, February 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian Cabinet ministers approved a number of agriculture-supporting programs on Thursday.

Robert Makaryan, deputy agriculture minister, who presented the programs at the regular Cabinet meeting, said the government would sell at affordable prices 3,000 tons of fertilizers, of which 1.5 tons are phosphorous fertilizers (AMD 180 million would be provided as subsidies), and the other 1.5 tons are potash fertilizers (AMD 105 million subsidies).

“In total, AMD 285 million will be earmarked for subsidizing the procurement of fertilizers, and the grant for delivering fertilizers to communities amounts to AMD 18.75 million,” he said.

He stressed that initially it was allocated AMD 443.25 million from the government budget for the implementation of the project, but later AMD 139.5 million was saved.

The deputy minister also said that up to AMD 360 million is proposed to be allocated from the budget to the agriculture ministry for subsidizing farmers’ diesel procurements – 60 drams for one liter in case of a purchase of up to 6 million liters.

On January 1, 2018, excise tax for liquid gas for fueling motor vehicles was raised from AMD 8,330 (around $17) to AMD 25, 000 (around $50) per 1,000 cubic meters, while that for diesel was downed from AMD 35,500 ($66) to AMD 13,000 ($26) per one ton, but VAT was introduced instead. ($1 – AMD 480.57). --0---
