Armenian parliament fails to pass bill implying revelation of real owners of energy facilities

The National Assembly of Armenia didn't pass Wednesday a bill implying revelation of real owners of electric power plants. The bill implied to make hydro power plants, thermal power plants and all those companies whose activities are reflected in prices transparent and accountable. In particular, the bill proposed to publish information about owners of no less than 10 percent of shares.
YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. The National Assembly of Armenia didn't pass Wednesday a bill implying revelation of real owners of electric power plants. The bill implied to make hydro power plants, thermal power plants and all those companies whose activities are reflected in prices transparent and accountable. In particular, the bill proposed to publish information about owners of no less than 10 percent of shares.
The amendment was expected to come into force on July 1,2020, if adopted. However, Artak Manukyan, an MP from My Step faction who is co-author of the bill, said during the second-reading consideration of the bill that some problems emerged in the course of discussion with the government, which said that there are some obstacles for putting the amendment into practice within the period of time mentioned in the bill.
Therefore, he proposed lawmakers to vote against the present version of the bill and return it to the first reading for making some alterations. As a result, the bill was not passed at the second reading and was returned to the first-reading status. -0----
