YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. An Armenian government task force set up to enforce the state of emergency declared to contain the spread of coronavirus, has ordered 32 food facilities across the country to close for 24 hours for breach of safety rules.

The decision is based on the findings of a monitoring conducted by the Food Safety Inspectorate. Six of the food facilities are in the capital city Yerevan and 26 facilities are in Vayots Dzor, Armavir, Ararat, Aragatsotn, Gegharkunik, Kotayk and Shirak provinces.

These food facilities are said to have failed to comply with a number of mandatory safety requirements such as wearing of masks and gloves by employees and visitors, ensuring social distance between tables, measuring the temperature of visitors, and the availability of separate closed garbage bins for masks and gloves. In case of repeated violations, the term for suspending their activity will be extended.

A 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus was declared in Armenia on March 16 and restrictions were imposed on free movement of citizens. The government banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government extended the state of emergency for another month and on May 4 it lifted the ban on almost all types of economic activity and the free movement of citizens, except for public transport. On May 14, the government has again extended the state of emergency for another 30 days.

However, despite the extension, public transport, preschools, trading centers, restaurants and gyms have reopened starting from May 18, and  wearing of masks has become  mandatory in public spaces.
