Business Angels discuss investment environment in Armenia

The Business Angel Network of Armenia (BANA) held Tuesday their annual investment conference in Yerevan. Some 90 business investors from Armenia and other countries attended the conference. The event was attended also by Armenian Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan.

Some 90 business investors from Armenia and other countries attended the conference. The event was attended also by Armenian Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan.
Luigi Amati, President of Business Angels Europe, CEO of META venture company, founder of the Business Angel Network of Italy, and Brigitt Baumann, Honorary Chair of the European Business Angels Network were speakers at the conference.
In his words, many companies left Armenia and got registration in other countries for the early stage investment institution was underdeveloped here.
"We are doing this to strengthen investment environment in Armenia, since this is the base," he said. "Venture funds will not grow without this. If nobody invests at the initial stage, very few manage to accomplish as interesting venture funds by using only their own resources."
Deputy IT Industry Minister Gegham Vardanyan informed the event participants about the projects which are planned to be implemented in the next years. One of these programs, he said, will support new companies at the initial stage of their activities by providing small and mid-size grants to them.

CEO of BANA Grigor Hovhannisyan told ARKA News Agency that the aim of the conference is to intensify inflow of investments, particularly early stage investments, into Armenia and increase the number of investors.

Another program will support accelerators of the business angel network and create a small venture fund. "We are going to support all those companies which want to start from an idea and to finish in reaching effectiveness," Vardanyan said. "There is a program at any stage on which we work, and we want these programs to give room to companies for a rapid growth." -0---
