Deposits at Ameriabank grew almost 20 percent in 2016 to 171 billion drams

The total amount of deposits at Ameriabank grew by 19% in 2016 from the year earlier to 171 billion drams, the bank’s Retail Operations Director Arman Barseghyan told journalists on Tuesday.
YEREVAN, March 21. /ARKA/. The total amount of deposits at Ameriabank grew by 19% in 2016 from the year earlier to 171 billion drams, the bank’s Retail Operations Director Arman Barseghyan told journalists on Tuesday.
Barseghyan described the growth as ‘impressive,’ especially against the background of a relatively modest growth of the Armenian economy.
“I think this is a very serious indicator, especially that the rates on deposits had a downward trend," he said. He added also that the deposits have been growing over the past few years at the annual rate of 20-30%.
Barseghyan said the bank’s retail loan portfolio grew by 28% to 57 billion drams in 2016. According to him, the growth was largely secured by those types of lending, which are strategically important for the bank.
"In particular, the lending to small and medium businesses grew by 80% to 12.9 billion drams, which is especially important against the background of a relatively modest economic growth in Armenia in 2016," Barseghyan said.
