EEC extends €1k limit of duty-free online purchases until April 1, 2024
YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. The Eurasian Economic Commission has prolonged the increased limit of 1 thousand euros for duty-free import of goods brought from abroad or ordered on foreign marketplaces until April 1, 2024, the Russian Business Consulting (RBC) news outlet reported.
The Ministry of Economy of Belarus clarified earlier that the extension is about duty-free import of goods by land transport and on foot, as well as goods sent by international mail and delivered by carriers, that is, with the exception of air transport.
Thus, the threshold for duty-free import of goods by citizens to the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union in the amount of 1 thousand euros and weighing 31 kg is maintained. Goods for personal use in the amount of not more than 10 thousand euros and weighing not more than 50 kg can be imported by air without payment of customs duties.
In January 2020, Russia introduced the €200 threshold for duty-free imports to equalize the working conditions of foreign and domestic online stores. However, after the introduction of Western sanctions against Russia at the end of March 2022, the threshold was raised to 1000 euros. After that, the increased threshold was extended every six months.
In August, RBC's sources on the Internet trade market reported that the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service proposed to lower the duty-free threshold to 500 euros, while the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Customs Service suggested cutting it to 200 euros. -0-
