Fanik community in Shirak to have dairy and fruit processing enterprises

Some 200 families in the rural community of Fanik in the northwestern Armenian province of Shirak will have enterprises to process dairy products and fruits before the end of this year, Orange Armenia telecom said today.

YEREVAN, July 14. / ARKA /. Some 200 families in the rural community of Fanik in the northwestern Armenian province of Shirak will have enterprises to process dairy products and fruits before the end of this year, Orange Armenia telecom said today.

The project that will enable the community residents to earn additional income is a joint effort of the Armenian International Interdisciplinary Group (G2iA), the French region of Rhone-Alpes and the Orange Foundation.

The project was started in 2014. Now the community has a consumer cooperative, while repairs of an enterprise for processing of dairy products are underway. This enterprise is expected to come into operation in the autumn.

On Tuesday, representatives of G2iA and Orange Foundation visited Fanik to see how the work was progressing.

Lilit Martirosyan, Orange Foundation secretary is quoted as saying in a press release that one of the most important activities of the Foundation is to help rural communities’ development. 

‘In recent years, we have been paying greater attention to programs, the aim of which is the economic strengthening of the rural communities and the creation of sustainable jobs," she says.

According to her, a number of such projects were implemented successfully in Tavush, Aragatsotn and Syunik regions.

Orange Armenia is a 100% subsidiary of France Telecom (trading as Orange). It began operations in Armenia in 2009 providing now 95% coverage and access to mobile network and Internet in 600 communities across Armenia.-0-
