Food prices in Armenia up 1.6% year-on-year in 2020 August

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices in Armenia grew by 1.6% in August 2020 as opposed to August 2019, and decreased by 0.9% compared to July 2020, the National Statistics Committee (NSC) said.

YEREVAN, September 3. /ARKA/. Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices in Armenia grew by 1.6% in August 2020 as opposed to August 2019, and decreased by 0.9% compared to July 2020, the National Statistics Committee (NSC) said, explaining the drop by a decrease in the prices of fruits and vegetables by 4.9% and 3.3%, respectively.
According to it, fruits in August rose in price by 30.6% year-on-year and fell by 4.9% from the previous month of July. Prices of vegetables in August 2020 increased by 0.3% from August 2019 and declined by 3.3% from July 2020.
"The overall drop in the prices for fruits and vegetables in August 2020 amounted to 3.93% compared to July. These products, which make 10.32% in the consumer basket, contributed to 0.4 p.p. drop in the overall level of consumer prices," the NSC said.
Sugar price in August declined by 3.9% from August 2019 and grew by 0.8% from July 2020. Meat products in August this year compared to August last year fell by 3.9%, and compared to July 2020 rose by 0.5%. Prices of dairy products in August fell by 3.5% from the same month of 2019 and rose by 0.3% from July 2020.
Prices of eggs in August 2020 compared to August 2019 fell by 20.7%, and compared to July 2020, increased by 2%.
In August 2020, prices of fish and seafood, coffee, tea and cocoa, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products grew by 0.1% from 2020 July, while prices of bakery products and cereals, cooking oils and fats, as well as soft drinks have not changed compared to July.
Prices for non-food products in August 2020 compared to August last year and July this year increased by 0.6%.
In general, consumer prices in Armenia in August 2020 increased by 1.8% compared to August 2019, and decreased by 0.1% from July 2020. -0-
