Government to release 329 million drams to subsidize purchase of seed by farmers

YEREVAN, October 14. /ARKA/. The Armenian government will release 329 million drams to subsidize the purchase of seeds for winter harvest by farmers. A decision to that end was approved today.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said many farmers buy and sow low-quality seeds to same money.

He said the asssiatnce measure is based on the following considerations: if a farmer allocates, for example, 70 drams for the purchase of ordinary wheat and uses it as seeds, the government will add as much money so that the farmer can buy certified seeds.

Pashinyan said the authorities must ensure and guarantee that the seeds sold in the market have appropriate certificates.

The prime minister said that the state will subsidize 70 drams of the cost of each kg of winter wheat, for which 329 million drams will be allocated from the state budget.

On February 16, 2021, the Ministry of Economy announced the start of a state support program to stimulate the production of spring grains, legumes and forage crops. Within the framework of that program, all farmers wishing to grow these types of crops, but having problems with the purchase of high-quality seeds, could apply for a partial subsidy for the purchase of seeds ($1 - 479.18 drams). -0-
