YEREVAN, December 25. /ARKA/. In the first 9 months of 2015 about 7,600 companies in Armenia were shut down and about 13,000 new companies opened, Aram Ohanyan, head of an economy ministry department in charge of small and medium businesses, said Thursday, adding that these numbers indicate a positive trend.
According to him, a major reason why companies shut down is their failure to become competitive. Ohanyan also noted that the government had undertaken a number of measures aimed at assisting small and medium-sized businesses, changing, in particular, the laws on VAT and license payments.
According to the ministry of economy, in the first 11 months of 2015 some 376 start-ups received state support and loan guarantees were provided to 160 operating and new SMEs. -0-
